Issue: Ledger Live Wallet Shows Wrong BTC Balance

The issue stems from a BTC account that was previously used to send a transaction that went through successfully, but part of the remaining balance is showing on a changed address. Actually, having a BTC ‘change’ on Ledger Live can end up being ‘refunded’ onto a changed address — A new change address is used for each transaction. Therefore, the changed address is still linked to the same BTC account. So, in theory, Ledger Live should show the total sum of BTC from all the changed addresses associated with the wallet.

Without any further ado, let’s clear some things out and help you solve this issue.

Possible fixes

It seems that the funds are there and that the issue comes from Ledger Live not showing the correct balance. This could be caused by something interfering with Ledger Live, so a simple shut-down and restart might do the trick.

If the issue extends beyond this simple fix, don’t worry there are other options.

Clear your cache

This helps unclog any systems that are running in the background and might interfere with the signals sent to the Ledger Live. Clear the cache is easy.

Make sure you are using the latest version of Ledger Live.

Note: to secure any ERC-20 tokens you first need to have the Ethereum app installed on your Ledger device.

Step 1: Click on the ‘Settings’ button located in the top right corner. This will open the settings screen as shown below.

Step 2: Click on the ‘Clear’ button that is in line with the clear cache. When you press this, a warning window will pop-up asking you to confirm your choice, similar to the screen-image shown below.

Note: Only confirm to clear the cache if you saved your Recovery Sheet and you have it saved securely.

Step 3: Click ‘Confirm’. The re-sync will take a moment to complete.

Ensure you have the latest Ledger Live version

Sometimes, the Ledger Live may need to be updated to the latest version in order to show the correct balance. Here’s how to check for a software update, and how to perform one if need it.

Step 1: Open Ledger Live, and from the menubar click on ‘Portfolio’. There you should see a window in blue regarding your Ledger version. If it is up to date you won’t need to do anything, but if it’s outdated you will see a blue message like the one shown below asking you to update to the latest version.

Step 2: Update the latest version of Ledger Live by clicking ‘Download update’.

Step 3: Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the update.
